There is one hidden character in Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram- Ajim. Ajim is one of the most powerful Virtuaroids in the game. Possessing awesome speed and powerful weaponry, facing him is a nightmare.
- UNCOVERING AJIM
To face off against Ajim, you must use "hide and seek" tactics against the computer. Use the objects around the playing field as a shield and fire weapons that go over or through them. The main objectives here is to play the "hide and seek" game, and to run time out. Try to use as much time as possible, without killing the computer opponent. Ajim will show up sooner or later, falling on the upcoming computer opponent. You'll know way before the match begins that he'll show, as the orange arrow usually pointing the direction where the opponent is when it is out of visual- will point to the sky, signaling his arrival. At times, you can make him show up as early as the second stage, but the average is about 3-5 stages. You have that only chance to beat him.
- SELECTING
Beat Ajim using any mech. Completely destroying Ajim or running out of time in ver.5.45 will do. You DO NOT HAVE TO FINISH THE GAME. When you end your game, it will automatically save to your memory card signaled by the "saving" screen after the "game over" screen. You must change the DC's internal date to 4.29.2000 or beyond. You must also have the VMS's clock/date adjusted beyond at or beyond the 4.29.2000 date (go to the system screen, choose the clock option, and at the bottom, there is an option to set the VMS time/date to the DC's time/date).
Now you can choose Ajim in any mode by going to the "Random Select" icon and holding down the X Button, then holding down the B Button. You should now see Ajim replace the "Random Select" icon. Select Ajim with either Triggers, or the A Button while holding down the predetermined buttons.
Those of you with the Pelican 4X memory card may have some trouble getting this to work since there is no internal clock/date for it. This was the cause for my frustration trying to acquire Ajim for play. I beat him many times and still couldn't get it to work. To remedy this, load the save file from your 4X memory card to boot the game. When the booting is done, and at the title screen, remove the 4X memory card and insert a standard VMS card having an LCD and clock/date. Go to OPTIONS and select save (you cannot transfer this file directly from VMS to VMS unfortunately). Open the lid after the save is done. Adjust the VMS's and the DC's date/time according to the above instructions. Close the lid and start VOOT. After Booting, you should now be able to select Ajim using the above instructions. Press B Button to go back to the Title screen. Remove the regular VMS. Insert your 4X memory card. Go to OPTIONS and SAVE.
- EVALUATION
Ajim is a very agile and quick Virtuaroid. Beating Ajim is no easy task. What makes it tough is that Ajim's weapons deplete a horrendous amount of energy. A couple of hits from his cube lasers, or any of his weapons and it's 'lights out'. His armor is of medium strength. One of his colored sphere lasers (the odd colored one- not the true red, blue, or green one) actually replenishes your energy to full capacity, so take advantage when you see the sphere lasers coming at you- so get hit by that odd colored one.
- TACTICS
Ajim has the unique ability to 'Armament Level Up' and to 'Mobility Level Up'. Both have up to 3 levels. Armament Level Up makes your weapons stronger and is accessed doing any type of forward moving dash- straight ahead, or diagonally. Mobility Level Up improves the quickness and speed and is accessed by doing any forward moving dash while airborne- straight ahead, or diagonaly. Ajim's LW and CW take quite a time to charge- emphasis on the CW as recharging time is ridiculously slow. Looking at Ajim's Weapon Depletion Chart, firing the main center weapon in any situation other than dashing takes more than 99 percentage points- counteracting the projectiles strength. It can take more than 3/4's the game to just get the CW back to 100%.
Ironically, Ajim's 5.4/5.45 version seems very, very weak when piloted in human hands. For some odd reason, Ajim's energy depletes at a rate of 1 percentage point a second. Also questionable is his V Armor strength. It is much, much weaker when you pilot Ajim- even weaker than fragile Cypher. Though his quickness makes him hard to hit, you have to almost play a perfect game to win in you look at a combination of the energy depletion and his weak V Armor. The developers of VOOT must have seen Ajim as the 'Guile' of the game because his 5.2 version kicks ass.
Ajim's 5.2 verion is much stronger. His V Armor is adequate- at least up to Cypher levels, and his energy does not deplete with time.
