BRADTOS
Bradtos is the 6th computer opponent and the last opponent on earth. Destroy Bradtos to finalize your training and head space for the ultimate battle and to claim the spoils for either RNA or DNA corporations- find Tangram!
TACTICS
Defeating Bradtos is fairly easy. Remembering the strengths and weaknesses of your Virtuaroid is key.
Bradtos has 5 different types of weopons. The upcoming information is numbered and corresponds to the pics to the right.
-
Bradtos opens up with these "triangular" type lasers (PIC.1) which have tracing (they keep firing until they hit you) characteristics. They are easily avoided by side-dashing just before they hit you. This is the first of the 3 waves of projectiles Bradtos will be firing at you before he exposes his vulnerable diamond.
- Bradtos will be firing "rectangular" type projectiles (PIC.2) at you simultaneously with the triangular lasers. They are fairly slow moving. Navigate them by using side-to-side dodging, only dashing if you really need to. Use running at all times when possible. You'll have a better visual of what Bradtos is up to.
- Next are his "CD" lasers (PIC.3). Again, run instead of side dashing as you'll be positioned better for the upcoming exposure of the vunerable diamond that is in Bradtos.
- Bradtos stalls for little before he exposes the diamond. Use this time to get your bearings and get ready to unleash your most powerful weapons. Bradtos will shoot these "spread" lasers (PIC.4) as he exposes the diamond. These lasers are shot in 8 waves. Starting from the first wave, every other shot will be shot directly where you are standing at that particular moment (Fig.1-1).
The 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th waves will be aimed to the side of where you were at on the previous wave. (Fig.1-2). Take appropriate action by dodging to the side using walking, before the 'odd-numbered' wave hits you. Stand where you are for the next wave of lasers and keep firing. Dodge the next wave...stand and fire and keep firing not worrying about the next wave. Dodge... repeat...
- After Bradtos' energy level goes past 50%, it will start firing "cluster" lasers (PIC.5). Avoid this by running to the side. Dashing is not necessary. Bradtos will now alternate cluster lasers and spread lasers (which will again, be shot directly at you) that can be dodged easily by running slightly to the side.
EVALUATION
Some Virtuaroids have weopons that cancel out most of Bradtos's lasers. For instance, the Apharmd's can use their grenade to cancel out the all of Bradtos's defeses including the rectangular lasers (destroyable with single explosion grenades). Knowing this, you can use their grenade as a defense and offense and just stand in front of Bradtos without having to dodge any of his spread/cluster lasers while the diamond is exposed.
Another important factor in your success is to find a the strongest weapon against Bradtos. Experiment to find out which weapon variation takes out the most energy. Remember, pressing either turbo button at the same time as your Right/Center/Left Weapon produces different variations of each.
Apharmd B is always a special case in VOOT. The easiest way to defeat Bradtos with Apharmd B is to use his melee (close quarters combat) attacks. Right after you dodge the final rectangular laser that comes at you, immediately get close to Bradtos and use his CW (center weapon: both triggers) melee attack with his tonfas. In fact, press CW before Bradtos exposes the diamond, as your tonfas will hit the core just as it opens if you time it right- and you'll be abel to hit Bradtos twice before he uses the deadly blue lasers. You can either stand there and take some hits from the spread lasers, or run to the side and avoid the lasers and wait for the next round when Bradtos repeats his maneuvers. Apharmd B's punt bomb (Left Weapon + Right Turbo) does just enough damage to destroy Bradtos, though it takes significantly longer and runs the risk of running out of time.
1 TRANSFORM KILLS
With specific VR's, destroying Bradtos within 1 transformation (exposure of the diamond) is possible.
- Apharmd B
- Evade til shortly before Bradtos is about to stop and open up. Apharmd B must be marching up towards Bradtos to get in range for his CQC CW Tonfa (which in 5.2 does just shy of 25% damage on Bradtos [in ver.5.4/5.45, CQC CW Tonfa does a little more than 20% damage-Ed.]).
Ver. 5.2 Basic Method:
- Just attempt to CQC CW Tonfa Bradtos as much as possible. 4 hits should bring Bradtos down to within 1% energy.
- Shoot RW Submachine-guns (or just about anything) to remove the last percent before Bradtos closes up.
This brute force method is unreliable as it is generally difficult to score 4 Tonfa hits with sufficient time left to remove the last 1% before Bradtos closes up. Also, often Apharmd B would take too much hits from the lasers at that range to get in 4 Tonfas. The only way to dodge lasers reliably at such short range is via the Jump-cancelling method.
Ver.5.4/5.45 Basic Method:
- 5 CQC CW Tongfas are needed to finish Bradtos within the 1 transformation.
You need to anticipate when the last set of rectangular lasers (shown in the Tactics section, pic.3) are fired so you can move into CW CQC range BEFORE Bradtos transforms. This anticipation is key as you have to navigate the last set of rectangular lasers and move towards Bradtos simultaneously. It's best to start your 1st CW CQC attack BEFORE the transformation (not too early, as the hit won't register), which allows you to get 2 hits in before the Bradtos' 1st spread laser. Getting hit by the laser is mute at this point. When you do get hit by a laser, just get back into CW CQC range and execute a CW CQC quickly BEFORE a 2nd spread laser moves you back even more. Getting in 5 hits in this fashion is quite easy to do- having a success rate of more than 75%.
Ver.5.2 Modified Method:
- Get in 3 Tonfas within the 1st 6 laser spreads, evade the 7th via jump-cancelling.
- Time a CQC LW to allow Apharmd B to slide under the last set of lasers, but keep tapping the LW to get the 2nd strike of the CQC LW preprogrammed combination.
The CQC LW 'Tonfa Slash' does less damage than CQC CW Tonfa, but by using the preprogrammed CQC combination, the double slashes in (2) definitely does much more damage than 25%, ensuring a kill after getting in 3 Tonfas. Using the CQC LW combination at the beginning does not work as chances are Apharmd Battler will get knocked back by lasers while he pauses before the 2nd strike.
Ver.5.2 Modified Method (2):
- Just within CQC CW Tonfa activation range right before Bradtos open, drop a napalm canister (normally standing LW, but I used a moving crouch LW which may be very difficult to do on a gamepad) and immediately execute CW Tonfa. If timed right, as Bradtos opens, the napalm would hit the center diamond for around 2-3%, immediately followed by 1 CQC Tonfa.
- Provided (1) was executed fast enough, Apharmd Battler has enough time for another CQC Tonfa that would just beat the 1st laser spread to the draw (he would slide in just before the lasers fire harmless above/around him).
- Actually, getting 2 Tonfas in within the remaining time should not be too difficult, but my method requires but 1 Tonfa before the next step.
- Chances are, the last sets of lasers are firing now. Do a jump over the next set, and quickly do an aerial forward dash CW... finishing with the Shadowless Kick (which in 5.2 does about the same damage as a normal CQC Tonfa)!
Using napalm right at the beginning to blow off 2-3% ensures that I only need to get in 4 Tongfers (or equivalent). As for the ending Shadowless Kick, experience suggests that the jump-into-Shadowless Kick is much less likely to be interrupted than a 4th Tonfa attempt [note that this also works very nicely in ver.5.4/5.45. The Shadowless Kick is a nice way to finish Bradtos- Ed.].
Cypher
Weapons used:
-Standing RTRW Laser
-Crouch CW 4-Way Missiles (preferably using Selective fire)
-Standing LW Daggers
|
Note that this method below is very difficult; my own chances of getting it right are 1 in 2 or even 1 in 3 attempts!
Ver.5.2 Method:
- Get into a stationary position facing Bradtos at medium or long range just before he opens.
- The moment Bradtos opens, attack using Laser. There should be enough time to get in 3 Lasers before the laser spreads fire.
- Sidestep 1st laser spread using moving crouch CW (release LW or RW) for 2-Way Missiles.
- Evade (I used a jump cancel) and fire standing Daggers at the next opportunity.
- Evade again, and fire another 2-Way Missiles
- Evade the last sets of laser spreads to fire the complete 4-Way Missiles.
I used crouch CW instead of LTCW as there is the prevailing suspicion that LTCW's 4-Way Missiles tend to do less damage (unconfirmed).
Note that this method, though very demanding in terms of piloting skill and timing, still leaves me enough time to fire a final Laser shot at Bradtos just before he dies (the Laser fires immediately before the 4-Way Missiles hit, and hits right after the 4-Way) even though I don't need to fire that last Laser to finish Bradtos.
If I accidentally fired 4-Way Missiles at step (3), I can still salvage the situation by substituting a Laser in place of the 2-Way Missiles at (5), which is slightly risky as Cypher is momentarily immobilized when firing the Laser.
Ver.5.4/5.45 Method:
- Apply the directions listed in the TACTICS section with the weapons and directions listed below.
- Do a crouching CW; then a standing RT RW before the first spread laser.
- Dodge the first spread laser, then follow up with a standing LW.
- Stand you ground during the 2nd spread laser as it should miss you. Fire another standing LW.
- Dodge the next laser, then follow up with another crouching CW.
- Stand your ground and fire a standing LW.
Bradtos should have been defeated by the last step. If not (sometimes the crouching CW misses), you can either use more standing LW's or RT RW as there should be plenty of time to even use a third crouching CW. Honestly, Bradtos should be quickly and easily defeated within the 1st transformation in this manner.
NOTES
For the old time arcade players, initially we used the jump-cancelling method to
avoid the spread lasers: Basically, jump to go over the 1st spread, then cancel
the jump to duck under the 2nd spread (which should be aimed in the air since the
player jumped), jumping and cancel again for every 2 spreads. Note that because
of the jumping, opportunities to attack Bradtos for the duration is rather
limited. The jump-cancelling method also does not work well when Bradtos employ
the cluster lasers as they cannot be evaded easily by jumping.
As we get more confident, we managed to figure out the pattern of the laser
attacks. I eventually used a sidestepping method: Basically, just walk your VR
slightly to one side when the odd laser spreads fire, just enough to sidestep the
laser aimed at you. Then, if you also standing moderately far enough, you can
remain still and the follow up even laser spreads will still miss you. Not only
does this method gives more opportunities for attacking while dodging the lasers
(you remain on the ground throughout), but it also still tends to work fairly well
against the clusters lasers.
Only Apharmd Battler can attack Bradtos with normal CC, but dashing CC (for
certain VRs at least, haven't tested all) still works against Bradtos (if you dare
get close enough). The air ramming attacks and Cypher's aerial dashing CC also
works; sometimes arcade players pull this off as a finisher move just for
show-off.
